Minutes: The School District of Palm Beach County is required as part of the NCLB Act to provide choice options for students who attend Title I schools that were designated as a “School In Need Of Improvement” (not making AYP) for two or more consecutive years. Board Members were updated on each of the options and given current data to provide a clear picture of how this initiative is being implemented in this district. Mary Vreeland, Director of Choice Programs and School Choice, reviewed statistics on students that were eligible to choose an option. Denise Doyle, Director of Elementary Education, provided Board Members with information regarding Elementary School within a School Model. Alison Adler, Chief of Safety and Learning Environment, presented a Secondary School within a School Model. Judy Klinek, Director of Supplemental Educational Services, summarized Supplemental Educational Services. Mrs. Burdick questioned if there will be a recommendation with regards to our federal legislation platform. Dr. Johnson responded that there will be. Board Members discussed: predictions on how many students would be eligible for choice programs next year; AYP for high school; and the definition of a Title I school.
